Business Plan Development: Sophisticated Ice Cream Cones
The ice cream world is big business. In 2010, the ice cream market was estimated to be worth $21 billion. Consumer studies have shown that ice cream can be found in up to 98% of US households and the typical ice cream consumer eats 24 quarts of ice cream every year. The in-home ice cream eating experience involves a diverse range of toppings, sauces, and cones. However the ice cream cone options outside of specialty stores such as Cold Stone Creamery, are bland and uninspiring. Our proposal for "Ampersand the Conery" a new, seed stage venture, centers around building a brand and product offering that will inject new levels of enthusiasm and novelty into the home ice cream experience.
The plan, along with our pitch, earned us a first place finish in the finals of the 2012 VCU Venture Creation Competition a month long stay in a Richmond, VA business incubator. The next few months had us managing our day jobs with our long-distance business relationship, as we put everything we had into developing a Kickstarter campaign. We missed the goal by quite a bit, but don't worry, we have a pivot up our sleeves.
